ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – St. Louis is on a list of top exporters to China. According to the website St. Louis is one of the top 9 US cities sending goods to the economic rising star.

This is a drastic change compared to six years ago.  In 2005 Canada was the top nation receiving goods from St. Louis.  The Great White North took in $1.7 billion of products and services from the Gateway City.  In 2011 $2 Billion of St. Louis’ products were sent to China.  This makes China the largest single country getting goods from St. Louis.

An October 2011 deal signed by governor Nixon may have put China over the top.  The trade agreement for $200 million with Zhejiang Province includes $100 million in export opportunities.  the deal also included  and additional $100 million in Chinese foreign direct investment into Missouri businesses.

In 2011 US exports topped 100 billion for the first time.  Now the country is the third largest importer of US goods.  For 28 states in the US China is the top destination for exports.
