Shelby Miller made his first Major League start a memorable one. Miller pitched six shutout innings while striking out seven Reds batters in the Cardinals 1-0 win in the final game of the regular season. Miller did not get a decision in the game. He left the action before the Cardinals scored the only run of the game in the 8th inning on Matt Carpenter’s run scoring single.

Victor Marte got credit for the win and Jason Motte pitched the 9th inning for his league leading 42nd save of the season. The Cardinals finish the regular season with a record of 88-74. Their next action will be Friday afternoon in Atlanta in the National League Wild Card one game playoff. Game time is 4:07 PM. The winner of that game will advance to the NLDS to play the Washington Nationals.
