Man Charged After Standoff at Family Dollar Store

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A man has been charged after a short overnight standoff at Family Dollar in north St. Louis.

Authorities said witnesses told police that the suspect entered the store on Martin Luther King and Newstead with his face covered and armed with a dark colored handgun to conduct a robbery and was still inside the business. 

Officers set up a perimeter when they saw the suspect attempt to exit a side door of the business. However, upon seeing officers the suspect retreated to a storage area of the business. 

Several moments later, the suspect announced that he was coming out, and he exited the front door and surrendered to officers. 

Officers recovered a pistol and a bag containing cash and cigarettes from inside the business. 

Dwayne Jefferson, 19, was charged with Robbery 1st, Armed Criminal Action, and Kidnapping. He also has outstanding warrants in Kansas City.
