DOWNTOWN (KTVI) - *Note - The Cardinals are holding another pep rally Monday afternoon at Ballpark Village at Clark and Broadway.  There will be music, prizes and an appearance by Fred Bird.  It will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

If you are looking for reasons to remain optimistic about the Cardinals chances you should check with Cardinals fans instead of odds makers.

The team is a big underdog to win their National League Division Series after Sunday`s game 1 loss to the Washington Nationals, 3-2.

Some fans left Busch Stadium on Sunday worried that the Cardinals will not be able to bounce back from a devastating loss.

The Cardinals led 2-1 for much of the game until Washington scored 2 runs in the 8th inning.

"It looked like we had them and then it turned around," said one fan. "It was miserable."

Other fans tried to stay optimistic. One fan compared baseball to a different type of cards, "It's like poker you want to win in the end instead of the beginning."

Some Cardinals fans feel the 2011 World Championship Season should serve as proof that it`s too soon to throw in the towel.

"It's never over until it's over," said one fan, "Last year taught us that."

Last year the Cardinals lost game 1 of the NLDS to the Philadelphia Phillies before going on to defeat them in game 5. The Redbirds also lost game 1 of the NLCS to the Milwaukee Brewers before going to defeat them to head to the World Series.

"Sure, they can do it," said one fan. "Just play one game at time."
