(KTVI) - A woman was killed in an early-morning fire at her home in Alton. Her two children have been found safe.

Her body was found in the home where the fire happened in the 1900 block of Orchid Blvd.  43 year old woman was the mother of two children ages 3 and 5. The children were not home.

The body was found in the basement where there was no fire but smoke was in the area.  The Alton fire chief said there is an obvious or visible cause of death but would not elaborate saying an autopsy would need to be done.

A neighbor noticed the fire about 2 a.m. a little before. It started in the carport attached to the house. Witnesses say the fire moved quickly to the house.
