(FOX NEWS) - A California Target employee is telling the company to keep the doors shut!   Casey Saint Claire is leading the charge to stop Target from opening at 9pm on Thanksgiving day so workers can stay home and spend time with their families.

She is the brains behind an online petition that has already brought in more than 200,000 supporters.  But not everyones in favor of the idea.

"You have 23 million people who are either out of work or underemployed I don't think this is the year to make a big to do about it." said business strategist Carol Roth.

With the economy struggling to get back on track, companies count on the holidays to boost sales. In 2011 the Black Friday weekend accounted for 11 percent of total holiday spending.

"The economy is certainly failing well I think Americans should play their part and if they want to go they should be able to go to work that day so they can spur the economy and people can go spend money. You can't do that if people don't show up for work at Target." said Lifeline Program CEO Scott Page.

Target isnt the only one starting early. Toys-R-Us, Sears, Wal-Mart and the Gap are just a few of the other retailers opening before you're done with thanksgiving dessert.
