Illini Wins Maui Invitational Tournament

It was a successful trip to Hawaii for the Fighting Illini. They won the EA Sports Maui Invitational Basketball Tournament on Wednesday night beating Butler 78-61. The Illini never trailed in any of the three games they played in the tournament. Illinois beat USC on Monday and Chaminade on Tuesday, before their Tournament winning performance against Butler.

In the win over Butler, Tournament MVP Brandon Paul led the way 17 points. Tracy Abrams also scored 17, while Wildwood, MO native Tyler Griffey and D.J. Richardson chipped in 14 points each.

The 6-0 Illini return back to the mainland to play Gardner-Webb on Sunday at Assembly Hall in Champaign. New Illini head basketball coach John Groce has his team off to a 6-0 start this season.
