Facebook & Twitter Threaten Wrong Man As CT Shooting Suspect

(WIRED) –   In the rush to identify the suspect of the Sandy Hook elementary school shooter many news outlets and social media users identified the wrong man.  CNN, the Huffington Post, Slate and other news organizations pointed to the facebook page of Ryan Lanza as the identity of the suspect.  This Ryan Lanza according to Wired.com is from Newtown and currently lives in New Jersey.

Public photos from the facebook account went viral.  Some being shared over 3,000 times .Death threats followed in the comments.

The owner of the facebook profile pushed back.  He commented, “Everyone shut @#@!@$ up it wasn’t me,” He says he was at work during the time of the shootings.

The AP reported the suspect in the shootings  is dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His name may not even be Ryan Lanza. The shooter’s younger brother is being held for questioning by police.
