Minnesota Wins at Illinois 84-67

The Minnesota Golden Gophers came in to Assembly Hall in Champaign on Wednesday night and beat the Illini 84-67. It’s the Gophers 11th consecutive win. Minnesota lead by four at halftime and increased the lead to 12 before the Illini launched a comeback. When Joseph Bertrand hit a short jumper, the Minnesota lead was down to 44-42. But the Gophers turned it on and outscored Illinois 40 to 25 to end the game. Brandon Paul was the Illini’s top scorer with 21 points. But Paul missed several minutes dealing with a bloody nose. Tracy Abrams battled foul trouble all game long before finally fouling out with 14 points.

Minnesota got a career high 29 points from Joe Coleman to lead all scorers in the game. Minnesota improves to 15-1 on the season, while the loss drops the Illini’s record to 14-3 and 1-2 in Big Ten play. Next up for Illinois, Saturday at Wisconsin.
