Middletown, OH, (CNN) – One person is dead and several others in the hospital after a multi-vehicle accident today (Monday) in Ohio on I-75.

A major gust of snow is to blame for the accident, authorities say.

The interstate was shut down in both directions after 18 vehicles and four semi trucks were involved in the wreck.

Crews had to rescue four victims trapped in three different vehicles.

Ten different emergency agencies came out to the scene to help.

The Dayton Daily News also reports that another accident happened around the same time on another highway.

The Ohio State Patrol says snow was falling at the time of that accident and caused drivers to
lose control.
