Granite City Man Charged For Attacking Man In Wheelchair

GRANITE CITY, IL. (KTVI) – A Granite City man faces charges for attacking his roommate, who’s in a wheelchair.

Police say Ecker Mathews got into a fight with the victim and started beating him.  Afterwards, Mathews demanded that the man move out.

The victim said he was knocked out of his wheelchair during the attack, but was able to get back in it and leave to get help.

He was not seriously injured.

Eckers is now charged with a felony, based on the fact the victim was physically-disabled.
