(KTVI) – The search is on for a plane that vanished while flying across Antarctica.  Three Canadians were on board the flight that was heading from the South Pole to an Italian base in the Antarctic.

New Zealand search and rescue officials say the plane’s emergency locator transmitter activated Wednesday night. But brutal winds and heavy snow are preventing them from putting up planes and helicopters to search for the downed plane.

Officials say the plane has enough survival equipment and supplies to last five days.
