VANCOUVER CANADA – Police say a 33-year-old man is in custody after an apparent random stabbing
rampage.

Reports say that a man ran through the hallways of an apartment building stabbing and
slashing residents along the way. Seven people were injured.

Shortly after dinner time the neighborhood was stunned by the violence in an apartment
building in Vancouver’s densely populated West-End.

“We heard some commotion and there were about six or eight cars cop cars on the street
here and then I could see people were hanging over their balconies directing the police so
obviously they could see the bad guy.”

Seven people ranging in age from their 20s to their 60s – and, including a police officer
– were hurt.

Of the six taken to hospital – two have been released.

Another four remain there with one in critical condition.

“It was a very vicious – very serious attack – there were multiple victims in this and as
i said it doesn’t appear it stemmed from an altercation inside a suite or anywhere else in
the building.” said Sgt. Randy Fincham of the Vancouver Police.

A 33-year-old man is in custody.

“well it’s a sickening feeling when you hear that kind of thing. And that many people
effected out of the blue like that. We’ll look forward to hearing more and learning more
and seeing what steps can be taken to prevent this kinda thing from happening.” said Mayor of Vancouver Gregor Robertson.
