Update: Teen Charged In CWE Attempted Robbery

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- People who live and work in the Central West End are on edge after another random act of violence. St. Louis Police say a 23-year-old woman was attacked in the 4500 block of Maryland Avenue at about eight o'clock Monday night.

Investigators say the woman was walking when a man grabbed her neck from behind, forcing her to the ground, and announced a robbery. The attacker searched the woman's coat and pants pickets then fled. The victim was not hurt.

Dennis George, owner of the Coffee Cartel at the corner of Euclid and Maryland says he is taking extra precautions to protect customers and employees. "We're changing our shift times. Our staff is getting off at different times now. We're making sure we've got the buddy system. People are being walked to their cars," said George.

You may recall, two elderly residents were attacked a couple of weeks ago and another woman was punched in the face one week ago. That incident happened one block away from Monday's incident.

There is a strong police presence in the neighborhood with officers patrolling in squad cars and on bikes.

The attacker is described as a black man, about 5'10, 160 pounds with a dark complexion and medium dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, dark pants, black hat dark gloves and dark shoes. No word on whether any of the crimes are related. If you know something, contact police.
