Spicy Chocolate Fondue

ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI) – It’s not just fondue day, it’s National Chocolate Fondue Day! If you haven’t had chocolate fondue, it’s rich, creamy and decadent. Carol Hurst, from the Old Town Spice Shoppe, showed Tim how you can make chocolate fondue at home. It's easy!

Olde Town Spice Shoppe Spicy Chocolate Fondue

3 dark chocolate candy bars (3-1/2 ounces each), broken in to small pieces
2/3 cup heavy whipping cream
4 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon ground ancho chili pepper
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon vanilla paste

Possible dippers:

Maraschino cherries with stems
Sliced bananas
Fresh strawberries
Dried apricots
Dried figs
Vanilla wafer cookies
Cubed angel food cake
Rice Krispies treats

In a small heavy saucepan, melt chocolate with cream, milk, butter, sugar, chili pepper, cinnamon and cayenne. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla paste. Mixture should be thick enough to hold on to dippers and not totally drip off.

Transfer to a small fondue pot and keep warm. Serve with dippers of your choice.
