(KTVI) -The Russian fireball and the close fly-by of an asteroid on Friday have scientists around the world scrambling.

NASA as well as private space contractors are racing to develop asteroid detection systems before the next one hits.

One of plans being proposed, is building eight telescopes. Each fitted with powerful cameras on the Hawaiian Islands.

Scientists say that telescope system would give a one-week warning for a small asteroid and three weeks for a larger one.
