MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. (KTVI) - With winter weather in the Thursday forecast, some area stores are glad they haven't shelved their winter supplies.

It's too soon to know what will happen but there is the possibility of snow, ice or freezing rain.

The Brandt and Sons Ace Hardware in Maryland Heights still stocks plenty of shovels, ice scrapers and ice melt.

One of the stores managers recalls how business shot through the roof during the last round of winter weather.  That was February 3rd when a couple of inches of snow fell late on a Saturday night into that Sunday morning.

"There was a run on sleds," said Eric Lavine.  "I bet I sold 50-60% of my supplies just the day."

He's hoping for at least one more shot of winter before the season is over.

"Last year we had plenty of supplies left over but the year before that, we literally had to bring in emergency truck loads to fill all our needs."

He says ordering the right amount of supplies is as tricky as predicting the weather.

Another sign that the seasons are changing can be found in Forest Park.  The outdoor ice rink will close to skaters after February 28th.

We found a few skaters on Monday slipping and sliding their way around the rink.

One said it might be easier in the snow but she's glad we've had two mild winters in a row."
"I used to be a snow girl,' she said.  "Now I'm happy with rain."
