ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- An incredible production of people and puppets premieres Wednesday night at the Fox. And the lead character will amaze you!

Joey is a 120 pound life size puppet and feature character in 'War Horse.'
It takes three people known as puppeteers to operate the massive puppet.

Joey is one of 27 puppets in the production which is based on a book and was also made into a Steven Spielberg movie.

We talked with a Belleville native who plays a veterinary officer in the play.

"We have a horse on stage with puppeteers that are obviously there but for some reason after five minutes of watching it you forget they`re there. You`re watching what the horse is doing, with how the horse moves, a horse that can`t speak but yet it translates," said actor Brooks Brantly.

"Joey's" frame is mostly made of a cane similar to bamboo along with some aluminum.

'War Horse' won five Tony awards in 2011 including best play.

It runs at the Fox through March 24th.
