(KTVI) - St.Louisan Curtis Finch, Jr. was the first to perform during Wednesday night's Idol episode.  The theme was "Music of the American Idols" so Curtis chose to belt out Fantasia's winning song, "I Believe," which did not impress the judges.

Randy Jackson told Finch to try something different while Mariah Carey said she wanted to hear more of his 'gospel tinge' and for him to take chances.
