ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – St. Louis city police are concentrating their efforts on Laclede’s landing Friday. They will have a mobile command van there operating from 6pm to closing time.

The department is concentrating on 32 crime hot spots around the city. The idea is that putting more police in high crime areas between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m can help reduce shootings and murders. The project’s being monitored by a top criminologist crunching the numbers to see if the strategy works.

Police hope the hot spot strategy will be successful in reducing the number of gun-related assaults.

This week’s effort comes after a man was stabbed on Sunday.
