ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-  Westbound I-70 was temporarily closed in downtown St. Louis Saturday morning due to the semi tractor trailer crash.  Emergency crews responded to the scene around 7:45am.

The semi, carrying huge reams of paper, tried to exit the Poplar Street Bridge onto Interstate 70 heading west. When the driver made the turn, the paper shifted inside the truck, causing it to overturn. The paper broke through the side of the trailer and on to the interstate. Crews shut down the highway in both directions for hours to clean up the crash scene.

The driver was taken out of the truck, saying he was fine but asking what had happened. No one else was injured.

The interstate reopened around noon.
