LAMBERT AIRPORT (KTVI)-The remains of a U.S. Marine killed during a training exercise March 18, in Nevada arrived at Lambert Airport Monday afternoon. Corporal Aaron J. Ripperda, 26, and six other Marines were killed when a mortar round unexpectedly exploded during a live-fire exercise.
Members of the Missouri Highway Patrol, Illinois State Police, other police agencies, and the Patriot Guard escorted the casket from the airport to Ripperda’s hometown of Highland, Illinois.
Visitation for Cpl. Ripperda is Tuesday night from 3pm until 8pm at Meredith Funeral Home in Highland, IL. His funeral will be Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Ripperda joined the Marine Corps in 2008.
