East St. Louis School District Laying Off 69 Teachers

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI) – Cuts in the classroom are coming to the East St. Louis School District.

Teachers layoffs were announced Thursday night during a packed school board meeting.  Sixty-nine teachers will be losing their jobs along with five elementary school principals and two middle school principals.

The district says it was forced to make the cuts because of budget issues.
