Beltran’s HR Helps Cards Take Down Phils

Carlos Beltran’s 8th inning home run broke a 3-3 tie and lifted the Cardinals to a win over the Phillies, 4-3 on Thursday night in Philadelphia. Beltran’s second home run of the young season put the Cardinals ahead to stay. Edward Mujica worked out of his own runners on first and third no body out jam to pick up the save. Mujica struck out Jimmy Rollins for the second out in the bottom of the 9th inning, then got Freddy Galvis to ground out to second to end the game.

Adam Wainwright pitched seven innings while allowing three runs to pick up the win to raise his season record to 3-1. Yadier Molina was the hitting star with three hits and two runs batted in, giving the Cardinals an early 2-0 lead. The Cardinals have a season record of 9-6 and first place in the National League Central division.
