(KTVI) - As allergy season arrives, many parents are getting children ready with medicine, but don't forget that it can also bring asthma symptoms.

Pediatrician Dr. Matt Dougherty with Esse Health talked about asthma.


What are the symptoms of asthma?

- Wheezing, or noisy breathing

- Coughing, often at night or early in the morning, or when you exercise

- A tight feeling in the chest

- Trouble breathing

How is asthma treated?

- Controlling and avoiding asthma triggers

- Regularly monitoring asthma symptoms and lung function

-Understanding how to use medications to treat asthma

 

Can asthma symptoms be prevented?

- Dust and mold

- Animals, such as dogs and cats

- Pollen, plants, and trees

- Cigarette smoke

- Getting sick with a cold or flu (that`s why it`s important to get a flu shot each year)
