BOSTON, MA (KTVI)-The tradition at Fenway Park in Boston is that at the start of the eighth inning, Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” is played and the crowd sings along. It’s been happening since 2002.

On Saturday, as Boston was breathing a sigh of relief, the 72-year-old composer and singer decided to sing that song in person. Neil Diamond flew to Boston and called Fenway Park just before the game to ask if he could drop in.

So when the eighth inning arrived, Diamond walked on to the field and surprised the 35,000 plus in attendance. Wearing a Red Sox hat, he led the crowd in the sing-along as “Sweet Caroline" played on the loudspeakers.
