ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – The suspect in an officer involved shooting in downtown St. Louis died Wednesday night.  The shooting occurred around 9:30 pm in downtown St. Louis at 8th and Carr, just north of the Edward Jones Dome.

The incident began when officers on patrol in the “Hot Spot” of Columbus Square were spotted by another car that sped off.  The police did not pursue the car.  A little while later the car was spotted again by police officers and again the car sped off crashing into a parked vehicle on 9th and Carr.

The passenger stayed with the vehicle and was arrested.  The driver of the car took off running and police officers chased the suspect.

The suspect produced a gun and pointed the weapon at the officers. Officers drew their weapons and verbally ordered the suspect to drop his weapon.

The suspect refused and the officers, fearing for their immediate safety, discharged shots, striking the suspect in the torso and arms.

The suspect was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Cary Ball.

Officers recovered the suspect's weapon, a loaded .40 caliber semi automatic gun with an extended magazine.

Investigation revealed that the gun had been reported stolen.

The two officers have been placed on administrative leave.
