CREVE COUER, MO (KTVI)-- Crushed by cold weather then rain and snow, the Desmet Jesuit High School baseball season has been hit hard like so many other schools across the region.

This has been one tough season for outdoor high school sports, especially softball and baseball.

All too often it seems like the field of dreams has turned into a field of mud and in some cases snow.

At DeSmet Jesuit, since the start of the season, they`ve battled through nearly 8 inches of rain.

They also had a string of games cancelled because of the record snow in late March.  So far, more than half a dozen games have been lost to weather.

And even when they are able to get out on the field, the weather has rarely been pleasant.  Temperatures have run below normal, often well below normal, for 27 of the last 40 days - or since the start of the season.

DeSmet Jesuit played one game Thursday against Ritneour, but maybe they should have played two.  The weather forecast swings another chance for rain our way Friday.  Players hope that will be the last of the unsettled weather for a while.
