Carlos Beltran hit two home runs and Lance Lynn pitched seven strong innings to lead the Cardinals to an easy 9-1 win over the Pirates on Friday night at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals got back to back home runs to lead off their half of the 1st inning to grab an early 2-0 lead. Matt Carpenter hit the first home run, then Carlos Beltran smacked a solo homer to left to start the scoring. The game then turned ugly when Pirates starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez threw at Allen Craig’s head after allowing the two early long balls. The pitch hit Craig in the shoulder and not his head. Sanchez was immediately ejected from the game.

Lance Lynn pitched seven strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out nine Pirates. Lynn got the win and improves to 4-0 on the season.
