EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI) – Police are outside East St. Louis Senior High School as classes let out for the day. They are worried about possible retaliation or violence after a Wednesday night Washington Park shooting.

East St Louis Police Chief Michael Floore confirms he has additional officers are outside East St Louis Senior High School this afternoon to prevent any more violence after a deadly night Wednesday in nearby Washington Park. Police had no direct threats of violence, but were worried about retaliation after a 17-year-old man was shot and killed in the 1600 block of 48th Street in Washington Park.

As students left the high school on State Street in East St Louis, officers were noticeable nearby. A person was in custody after last night’s killing, but there is no information this afternoon on whether or not charges will be filed today. The investigation into the killing is being handled by Illinois State Police.
