ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) - Yen Nguyen the widow of Hoang Nguyen exclusively opened her home and tells her story to FOX 2. She didn`t want to show her face to cameras, but wants everyone to remember her artistic husband of 39 years.
Hoang died in April 2011 after a group of teens attacked the couple in south city. They became victims of the knockout game while walking home from the store near Chippewa and spring. They moved from Vietnam 5 years ago.
'I love my husband so much and we love each other and we were a happy family. Now my heart is broken. I miss my husband so much.' Said Nguyen
On Thursday, 20 -year-old Elex Murphy was sentenced to 55 years in a St. Louis circuit court.
Murphy got 30 years for murder and 25 for first- degree assault.
Amazingly Nguyen has found a way to forgive, she gave Murphy`s attorney a bible for him to study in prison.
'My husband told them 3 times no don`t do this why did Murphy kill him.' Nguyen said
Assistant circuit attorney Christine Krug says this case will make young people think twice before they act.
'It`s the risk these kids take when they assault innocent people, something horrible can happen and in this case it did.' Said Krug
Yen still struggles with loss of her husband, but she is hopeful that others will learn from her tragedy.
'Don`t` do the bad things. I love America' she said
Nguyen recently got her U.S. Citizenship and is currently working to support herself.
