ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) -  Dave Leezy got to put back together a piece of presidential history.

"When they found out Mr. Kennedy had sat on that seat, they wanted to sit on that seat, you know," says Dave Leezy, the owner of Northtown Auto Body.  "That was kind of funny.  But then they want to do little photo ops with it, 'Hey take a picture of me while I'm sitting in this cart.''

For three months this golf cart sat in Leezy's Collinsville auto body shop, a remnant of a JFK journey to St. Louis.

"They probably bought the golf cart new and then modified it to the way that Mr. McDonnell wanted it to accommodate Mr. McDonnell running around the plant telling everybody what to do," says Leezy.

In September of 1962 President John F. Kennedy came to St. Louis for a tour of McDonnell Aircraft.

"There were just a lot of photographs of him riding around that cart with Mr. McDonnell,"  says Rick Rehg the Vice President of the Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum at St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia.

JFK had come to see the Gemini and Mercury spacecrafts under construction. He rode the modified golf cart.

The cart had been sitting in storage until this past year. On Monday,  it will be displayed at the St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia.

"Anytime we have somebody come here and we tell them this they go, 'Wow,'"says Rehg.

"You know one time we had somebody come here and sit down on the seat where Kennedy did and he said, 'Now I can tell people I had my touch with greatness.'''
