MANCHESTER, IL (KTVI) – Five victims were found fatally shot inste a home in Manchester on Wednesday April 24th, 2013.  One of the victims was a pregnant woman.  The suspect died in a shootout with police.

In a release from Manchester police they say Rick Smith, 43, planned the attack to resolve a custody battle over his three year old daughter.  The suspect believed that the mother’s relatives were interfering with their custody battle.  Rita Luark is the mother of Smith’s 3 year old daughter.

There were three families that lived in the home where the bodies were found on 19 East Street. None of the Sinclair, Luark or Ralston families living in the home were related to Smith.

Cell phone records indicate that Smith remained within 25 miles of town.  Investigators say they have developed a timeline of Smith’s activities before the shooting.
