HILLSBORO, MO (KTVI)-- U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Steven Anderson delivered a big surprise to his son during Garrett Anderson`s high school graduation in Hillsboro.

Steven Anderson was deployed to Afghanistan for nearly a year.  He returned in time to see his son graduate from Hillsboro High School on Tuesday night.

The army dad disguised himself as a member of the faculty in a black robe.  When the school stopped to recognized students heading into the military, Steven Anderson removed the robe and surprised his son.  Garrett is joining the Marines.

"I`m just glad he`s home," said Garrett Anderson.

His dad found it tough waiting to appear with the surprise.

"It ranked right up there with some of our toughest missions over there," said Steven Anderson.

The two will share some precious time together before Garrett leaves for the Marines.

"I read about him all year in the paper, playing football and baseball," said Steven Anderson.  "He`s solid."
