IL State Trooper Strikes, Kills Pedestrian

SWANSEA, IL (KTVI)-An Illinois State Police trooper struck and killed a pedestrian near Swansea early Tuesday. The trooper, a 7 year veteran, was transporting an arrestee to a jail on Highway 159 just after 1:00am.

According to ISP, several semis were illegally parked at 159 at Emerald Terrace in Swansea in the center lane with their headlights on. A pedestrian darted out into the traffic lanes. The Trooper did not see the person, a male, and accidentally struck him.

The man was pronounced at the scene. The incident remains under investigation. The Trooper remains on duty.
