(KTVI)-Cardinals starting pitcher Jaime Garcia has been placed on the 15 day disabled list. Garcia is battling the same shoulder strain that limited him last season to just 20 starts.

The Cardinals team doctor performed an MRI on Garcia's pitching shoulder on Saturday morning. The results nearly mirror the same shoulder strain Garcia battled last season. So surgery could be an option.

He allowed six runs in Friday night's game but still got the win to raise his season record to 5-2.

Mitchell Boggs has been recalled from the Cardinals Class AAA farm team in Memphis to take Garcia's spot on the roster. Garcia's spot in the starting pitching rotation could be filled by any of these pitchers: Joe Kelly, Carlos Martinez, Seth Maness or AAA pitching phenom and last year's top draft pick Michael Wacha.
