ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – The holiday weekend that ushers in the summer season arrived with a big chill on Saturday.

At one point in the afternoon, the current temperature in St. Louis was nearly 10 degrees cooler than it was in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Clouds, rain and temperatures in the 50’s prevented some pools from opening on what’s typically a busy time for aquatic centers.

The White Birch Bay Aquatic Center in Hazelwood did not open Saturday because the temperature did not warm up enough.

Aquaport in Maryland Heights opened even though at one part of the afternoon the water slides were empty.

Lightning forced the cancellation of some little league games and even forced a temporary shutdown of the Blues Festival in Downtown St. Louis.

The festival resumed at 4:00 pm.  The event moved to Memorial Day weekend this year in hopes of better weather.
