Overpass Collapses After Train Collision, 7 Injured

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KTVI) -A train collision in Scott County, MO inured seven and caused an overpass to collapse. Two trains collided around 2:30am underneath the Highway M overpass near County Road 210 in Scott County. Part of the Highway M overpass collapsed.

The crash occurred between Scott City and Rockview.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Department says a Union Pacific train hit a Burlington Northern train. The trains derailed and struck a pillar under the overpass causing it to partially collapse.

Two vehicles were on the overpass when it collapsed. Five people from those cars and two people from one of the two trains were taken to a local hospital. All but one was treated and released from the hospital.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident. Senior Rail Investigator Mike Flanigon will serve as the investigator-in-charge.

Highway M is shut down from Scott City to Chaffee.
