SPANISH LAKE, MO (KTVI) - A bomb scare turned out to be a false alarm in Spanish Lake late Tuesday afternoon.

This happened at a home near the intersection of Bellefontaine Road and Twillman Avenue.

Authorities said an elderly man passed away. When relatives were going through his belongings, they found a box marked 1954. The relatives thought there were explosives inside the box.

Bomb and Arson Squad evacuated an area of about 300 yards around the home. About 30 residents were displaced while crews investigated the box.

Investigators say aircraft parts were inside the box, not explosives. The elderly man was a  former pilot.
