SPRINGFIELD, IL. (KTVI) – A Madison County judge has upheld the one year suspension of an Alton doctor’s medical license, for failure to report a child abuse case.  The suspension is for a period of one year and stems from the doctor Gita J. Malur treatment for a 2-year-old boy in 2007, who subsequently died after suffering multiple bruises, burns and fractured sternum.

Doctor Malur was originally cited in 2009, but the suspension was put on hold as the case worked its way through appeals.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations says its pleased with the outcome stating, “IDFPR and the courts should be applauded for holding Dr. Malur accountable for the death of this child, which could have been prevented,”.
