Cards Beat Reds 9-2, Wainwright Wins his 9th

The Cardinals pounded out 16 hits, scored nine runs and beat the Reds 9-2 on Friday night in Cincinnati, getting the big weekend series between the NL Central’s top two teams off to a great start. Adam Wainwright pitched seven strong innings to win his 9th game of the season. Waino record seven strikeouts, giving him 999 for his career.

Offensively, every Cardinals position player recorded at least one hit. Pete Kozma was the big hitter with two hit and three runs batted in. David Freese and Jon Jay each had two hits and two RBI. For Freese, the hits extend his hitting streak to 17 games. Matt Carpenter also had a hit to extend his streak to 16 games.
