WELLSTON, MO (KTVI)-- A Wellston city council member and a resident got into a fight at Monday's meeting.

Council member Helen Jackson had to be restrained by police officers.

The meeting was supposed to focus on the future of former Pine Lawn Police Chief Rickey Collins.

Collins was appointed to the Wellston Police Department by the Wellston mayor.

He was fired from Pine Lawn in May.

The reason for the firing has not been released, but Collins has a controversial past.

It includes being investigated twice for shootings at DUI check points.

Collins said he was just "trying to move forward" with his career.

However, Wellston Chief of Police G.T. Walker said he did not want Collins on the force.

"We are trying to clean up the name of the Wellston Police Department, and we need people with the cleanest records," he said.

Many Wellston Police officers used to work for the Pine Lawn Police Department.

"Collins fired many of the officers," Walker said.

According to Collins, Chief Walker and the rest of the officers who oppose him joining the force want payback.

Monday's meeting ended after the fight, so the vote on Collins did not happen.

The woman who got in a fight with the council member was taken to a hospital after filing a police report.

The council meeting ended after the altercation without a decision on Ricky Collins' future.
