IBERIA, MO (KTVI)-- A 13-year-old girl is murdered over the weekend in the small Missouri town of Iberia. Police have made an arrest and they didn't have to go far to find that person.
Iberia is in Miller County, about 140 miles southwest of St. Louis.
Macala Shelton was last seen Friday night at her home in Iberia.
A missing person report was issued Saturday afternoon, shortly after her grandmother went to wake her up and found her bed empty.
Sunday her body was found in a wooded area on an abandoned farm near her home.
Her step-uncle 30-year-old Steven Henderson has been arrested and charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action. He reportedly lived in the same house as Macala.
According to a probable cause statement provided by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Henderson admitted to killing Macala early Saturday morning by stabbing her with a large knife.
The Miller County Sheriff's Department says while executing a search warrant at the home, the knife believed to be the murder weapon was found.
Steven Henderson is being held on $500,000 million bond. His next court appearance is set for Monday, July 8th.
Macala's stepfather, 33-year-old Jerry Henderson, who also lives at the same residence, was arrested on unrelated to Macala's death.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm after investigators found multiple weapons in the home and discovered he was a convicted felon.
