FESTUS, MO (KTVI) - Authorities in Festus have identified the 20-year-old man shot to death Monday night.

According to police, Cole L. Campbell was found shot inside a home in the 400 block of South 5th Street.   Campbell was discovered around 11pm Monday after someone called 911. He died at the scene.

Mackenzie Halinski, 20, from St. Charles was taken into custody by police. The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney's office has issued charges of involuntary manslaughter.  Bond is set at $7,500.

The St. Louis County Bomb & Arson team was also called in to check several suspicious items. County police will only say that they went to the scene because of reports of pipe bombs. FOX 2 checked with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. They said they were aware that explosive material was seized at the scene, but that this so far is a local not a federal case.

Some neighbors near the shooting scene say they weren't surprised, either by the shooting or the possible explosives, noting that the house where the shooting took place had a makeshift shooting range in the basement.

And as to the explosives, St. Louis County police say they can't release any information without permission from the Festus police chief. And he isn't talking. And the death seems to be an unintentional shooting, thus the involuntary manslaughter charge.
