MASCOUTAH, IL (KTVI) -A Southern Illinois man is lucky to be alive after his car is swept off a St. Clair county road by flood waters. Brickyard road  has been swallowed up by flood waters along Silver and Hog creeks. That high water coming after more than a half foot of rain soaked this part of Illinois over the weekend.

At around 12:30pm Wednesday afternoon rescue crews were called to the scene for a car in the water.  Both Mascoutah fire and Belleville swift water rescue responded.  Law enforcement officials say the driver ignored the high water signs and attempted to take his white mini-van through the high water which is at least two feet deep in some spots.

The car started to float and was swept off the road into a ditch.  Rescue crews were able to pull the man to safety.  There are no serious injuries in this incident.
