COLUMBIA, IL (KTVI) - Erin Schneider was due in court to push an order of protection when police found her murdered. In court documents filed by her mother, Schneider claims her ex-boyfriend Jordan Kuykendall abused her. No one is charged in Schneider`s murder, but here are the facts as we know them.
Major Case Squad Investigators said the teen was "stabbed multiple times in the neck and upper torso."
A Facebook photo on Jordan Kuykendall`s page shows him kissing victim Erin Schneider. They broke up two weeks ago. An emergency order of protection was filed against 19-year-old Kuykendall. A Court hearing was scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, June 27th. Instead of appearing in court, police say Schneider was dead inside a home on Riebeling. Investigators believe she died sometime after 8 a.m. that Thursday.
Schneider`s friends don`t see how she could`ve even been at Jordan`s place. One friend said, “I didn`t think she would be there at all — ever.”
At about 10 a.m., Kuykendall reportedly drove his car and collided head on with a Hummer. The crash scene is about a mile from the murder scene. But officers did not know about a murder yet, until about noon, when Columbia, IL police went to the Kuykendall house. They went to the home looking for the 17-year-old girl. Police found Schneider`s car, parked several blocks away, which accounts for the second reported crime scene. Jordan`s brother, Justin Kuykendall, answered the door. He let police enter and then the murder investigation began.
"We have more than 25 investigators on this," Major Case Squad Commander Thomas Coppotelli said.
He added that, the "findings" could be presented to the Monroe County State's Attorney's Office soon.
Justin Kuykendall, 25, is a registered sex offender, who`s posting heavily on Facebook. In one post, he says he didn`t know anything about the murder in his own home, writing “anyone that knows me, knows I sleep through everything. I had no clue till I woke up and found it.” 'It' apparently being Erin Schneider`s body.
More than 100 of Erin Schneider`s friends held a prayer service for her at Immaculate Conception Church. Columbia High School`s principal said he`ll keep the school open next week for students who want to talk. Friday, friends remembered the good times.
Former co-worker Roger Neff said, “She always made it fun and when (my friend) told me what happened, I didn`t believe it. It still has not hit me to this day.”
Another friend fought back tears when she said, “Some days when I was having a bad day she would talk to me and laugh about it and get me laughing.”
Everyone described Erin Schneider as someone who was there for them.
Again, no one is charged for the murder. Police say they have one person of interest at this time and have been questioning two people. Police confirmed Jordan Kuykendall is able to talk to police because his injuries are not life threatening.
Visitation is Sunday, June 30, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Monday, July 1, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Matt Friz officiating. Erin will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be made to Violence Protection.
