The Oakland Athletics 40 year old pitcher Bartolo Colon dominated the Cardinals on Friday night out in California in the A’s 6-1 win. Oakland broke the game open early, scoring five runs in the second inning off Cardinals starting pitcher Shelby Miller, who failed to make it out of the seventh inning. Colon pitched eight innings, allowing just one run in winning his 11th game of the season. David Freese’s single in the fifth inning accounted for the only Cardinals run.

The Pittsburgh Pirates win their game on Friday night, 10-3 over the Milwaukee Brewers. So with the Cardinals loss, it drops the Redbirds to second place in the NL Central division, one game behind the Pirates.
