BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI)– The sheriff of St. Clair County calls it a sad day for law enforcement after a fellow officer is arrested for smuggling drugs into his jail.

Douglas Young is a 12 year veteran of the Washington Park police force and also an Alorton police officer.

Sheriff Rick Watson says Young pretended to visit an inmate at the St. Clair County Jail on official police business and was instead smuggling pain killers to her.

Young is charged with official misconduct and is expected to be fired from both jobs, as well as decertified as an officer.
