NODAWAY COUNTY, MO (WDAF) – Up in the small town of Maryville, Missouri, in Nodoway County, by the Nebraska/Iowa state line, things are usually pretty quiet. But last week that changed when a man died in front of a full courtroom after his conviction was read.

Steve Parsons had been found guilty in the case of statutory sodomy of a 14-year-old girl. Minutes after the verdict was read to the court, he died. Apparently he committed suicide in front of everyone involved in the case.

Parsons was facing up to seven years in prison. He was known in the area as the owner of Parson’s Tire & Service. He was also known to the courts due to his long history of legal violations.

Parsons had ordered 100 grams of cyanide and had it shipped overnight, then he smuggled it into court.
