(KTVI) – The Missouri State Treasurer’s office is breaking records.  According to Treasurer Clint Zweifel, the office has returned over $39.5 million in unclaimed property for the 2013 fiscal year.

Last year, $38.2 million in unclaimed property was returned to 130,000 account owners.

“Breaking records is great, but what really matters is getting this money back to the individuals, businesses, local governments, schools and religious organizations it belongs to,” Treasurer Zweifel said.

The treasurer’s office has returned over $150 million since 2009.

Treasurer Zweifel says there’s still $230.8 million in unclaimed property to be returned in the St. Louis region which includes Crawford, Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, St. Charles, St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Warren, and Washington counties.
